2016 Tony Award Nominations – Best Lighting Design of a Play / Musical

Broadway In Chicago is beyond excited for the 2016 Tony Awards on Sunday June 12th 7-10PM CT! We’ll be highlighting the nominees in each category and filling you in on some fun facts each week leading up to the award ceremony.

Natasha Katz – “Long Day’s Journey Into Night”

Justin Townsend – “The Humans”

Jan Versweyveld – “The Crucible”

Jan Versweyveld – “A View from the Bridge”

Here’s a few fun facts:

-Natasha Katz won the 2012 Tony Award for Best Lighting Design of a Musical for “Once” which last played in Chicago at the Cadillac Palace Theatre June 2nd – June 7th, 2015.

-Justin Townsend first crafted his lighting for “The Humans” for its world premiere at Chicago’s American Theater Company in November 2014.

Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer – “Shuffle Along, Or the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed”

Here’s a few more fun facts:

-Howell Binkley was the lighting designer of the hit-musical “Jersey Boys” which he then won the Tony Award for Best Lighting Design in 2006.

-Some of the work Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer are well known for include; Ragtime, Pippin and the original productions of Chicago and La Cage aux Folles which have all toured through Chicago.
