Matilda The Musical partners with Books on the L

On Tuesday, March 1st, Roald Dahl’s Matilda became the newest “Book on the L.” Books on the L is a program created by Leo Burnett in partnership with Chicago Ideas Week. Books are left to be taken, read, shared, and most importantly enjoyed!

Broadway In Chicago and Leo Burnett distributed 250 copies of Matilda throughout the course of the day. Riders are encouraged to “Take It, Read It, Return It” while they are on the train. If you come across a copy, be sure to share your find on social media using #BooksOnThe L and check out the hashtag for more fun photos! We tried to blanket the city, leaving books on nearly every L line throughout the day.

Broadway In Chicago has hosted Chicago Ideas Week events at our theatre, and we are excited to partner with Books on the L for the first time!

Nominations for the 2013 Tony Awards were announced this morning! Kinky Boots, which had its pre-Broadway World Premiere here in Chicago last fall, led the way with 13 nominations! Matilda was close behind with 12 nominations and the revival of Stephen Schwartz’s Pippin with 10.

Other nominated shows that played here before Broadway include Bring It On (Best Musical and Best Choreography) and Holland Taylor earning a Leading Actress in a Play nomination for Ann, the story of Texas Governor  Ann Richards. The Broadway transfer of Steppenwolf Theatre Company‘s production of Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? earned five nominations, while ensemble member Laurie Metcalf was also recognized for her work in The Other Place.
